Marvelous musical Marimbas in the Park at Westville Senior Primary
This is the fifth year that the school has pulled off a very successful event incorporating musicians from other areas as well as the school's marimba bands.
Mathew Greenaway may seem tiny behind this huge Marimba, but he is more than capable of playing beautifully as those who witnessed the 5th annual Marimbas in the Park at Westville Senior Primary School, while Barry Oosthuyzen, head of music at the school can be seen looking on proudly in the background.
THE sunshine topped off a beautiful winter’s day in Westville as learner music groups, orchestras and even visiting brass bands all performed to a field full of family and friends of Westville Senior Primary School (WSPS), its staff and learners, at this year’s fifth annual Marimbas in the Park, on Sunday, 2 June.
Barry Oosthuyzen, the head of music at WSPS, said the event is very popular.
“Westville Senior Primary School is very proud of its marimba bands. The learners and teachers who play in these bands show great commitment often giving up their own to time to practice and make sure that they are ready for the next call.”
“Marimbas in the Park once again showed this commitment and the high levels of performances by the learners,” said Oosthuyzen.
He noted that the audience’s applause was a good indication of how much the bands were appreciated. “WSPS thanks its sponsors, donors and supporters for making this event a success,” he said.
