Inchanga police officer shot, dies in domestic dispute

A 26-year-old man was arrested and will appear in court tomorrow.

INCHANGA police officer, Constable Thandiwe Mavaneni, was shot in her home in Mpumalanga during a domestic dispute yesterday morning.

She was raced to a nearby hospital but died on arrival.

The Mpumalanga police arrested a 26-year-old suspect for murder.

“It is alleged that Mavaneni (33) was sustained multiple gunshot wounds,” said said the KZN SAPS spokesman, Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

A case of murder was opened at Mpumalanga police station for investigation.

The suspect was arrested and he will be charged for murder. He will appear at the Mpumalanga Magistrates Court on Friday, 14 June.

“A firearm was seized and will be subjected to ballistic tests,” said Mbele.

Police management in KwaZulu-Natal extended their condolences to the family and friends of Constable Mavaneni.

“Her death came as a shook to police officers at the Inchanga and Mpumalanga police stations, who were confronted with the gruesome incident,” said Mbele.
