Kloof SPCA’s Sarah gears up for 1 000 mile cycle fund-raiser

With your support, the Kloof and Highway SPCA's clinic, which hosts regular outreach work in the Valley, will be able to afford a much-needed makeover.

IN an effort to raise funds for the Kloof and Highway SPCA’s much-needed clinic upgrade, its operations manager, Sarah Van Heerden, will embark on a 1000 miler cycle race to Cape Town.

On Saturday, 15 June at precisely 5am, the courageous Sarah van Heerden will kick off her journey from Vanderbijl Park through to Blouberg in the Cape. She will ride through Bloemfontein, Colesberg, Richmond, Loxton, Fraserberg, Sutherland, Ceres and then finish off in Blouberg. The temperatures, she said, can reach minus 10 and riders have been known to face snow and sleet along the route.

“It is an unsupported non-stop race where riders plan their route in terms of sleeping, eating and riding,” said Sarah.

Both her and a friend hope to complete the race in under 5 days and break the record for the 1600kms. In doing so, Sarah aims to raise funds for the clinic upgrade as it plays a vital role in helping animals that would not otherwise be afforded primary health care.

“Every Thursday the clinic holds an outreach, where the inspectors bring in animals from rural, outlying areas and disadvantaged homesteads, where they are sterilised, inoculated and treated,” said Sarah.

“Please would you make a donation to this incredible project so that we can continue to do the work that makes such a difference in many animals lives.”
