Duo sentenced for robbing Inchanga bakery driver
The robbery took place in 2017 and the two men were arrested shortly after the incident with the help of the community.
TWO men who robbed and hijacked a bakery driver at gunpoint in Inchanga in 2017 were sentenced by the Camperdown Regional Court.
Ayanda Mweli (27) of Inchanga was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of an unlicensed firearm and pointing a firearm while his co accused Kwanele Zuma was sentenced to five years imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele said the duo was apprehended with the help of the community on 7 March 2017 after they robbed a delivery truck in Fredville and took an undisclosed amount of cash and two cellphones.
“They forced the driver to drive on a gravel road, but he managed to flee from them and asked the community for help,” said Manqele.
The Cluster Commander of eThekwini Inner and Outer West Cluster, Major General James Sayer welcomed the sentencing of the two men by the Camperdown Regional Court for armed robbery and carjacking and further commended the role played by the community in the case.
Sayer praised the community and further urged them to continue assisting the police in the fight against crime. “The community of Inchanga really did a sterling job by assisting in the arrest of these criminals, I would like to urge the entire community in this cluster to work together with the police so that we can conquer the fight against crime. Without community partnership, the police will always struggle to fight crime,” he said.
