Man sells company vehicle in Pinetown, reports it stolen

The man appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court and was granted bail of a R1000.

A MAN who sold a company vehicle and reported it as stolen appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 4 June facing charges of perjury.

According to Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele, the 28-year-old man opened a case of carjacking on 27 May where he stated that he was hijacked by two suspects while driving  a company Toyota Quantum vehicle in Cowies Hill.

“A case of carjacking was registered at Pinetown police station and the detectives began with their investigation. Seven days later, police investigation revealed that the suspect opened a false carjacking case and was arrested.”

Manqele said the man admitted during an interrogation that he sold the vehicle.

He was given a bail of a R1000 and is due back in court on Monday, 8 July. The vehicle has not yet been recovered.
