THE St Mary’s DSG primary school SPAR Star of the Month is grade 7 learner, Alexandra Ric-Hansen.
She was chosen as this month’s star for her phenomenal achievements in show jumping. Alex recently represented South Africa at the FEI Children’s Jumping Final in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Alexandra said it was an incredible experience to compete against top athletes from across the world.
Riders are allocated a horse from a random draw and are given two 30 minute sessions to get to know their horse, and jump a maximum of six jumps per session. Alex drew a stallion named Governor.
Alex rode very well and maturely. Despite that the odds were stacked against her as she faced unfavourable weather conditions and fierce competition. Her time on the round, and skill, were good enough to give her a podium finish of 10th place for the final.
“It was such an amazing learning experience for Alex and she really held her own on a top class stage,” said her mom, Monique Ric-Hansen.
