Dis-Chem Foundation changes lives
Dis-Chem Foundation donated three wheelchairs to GreenAble, a non profit organisation based in Pinetown.
PINETOWN non-profit organisation, GreenAble. will benefit from the wheelchair donation by the Dis-Chem Foundation.
GreenAble is a registered NPO which incubates, educates and empowers previously unemployed disabled individuals, changing their lives and bridging their skills gap.
“This is done within a unique sustainable incubation business, which diverts e-waste, making a meaningful contribution to saving our environment,” said Sarah Ramkumar from GreenAble.

She said they deal a lot with people who suffers from polio. “We have serious cases as some of them cannot even walk and others find it hard to move around.
“These wheelchairs will really help us a lot and when there is a case of emergency, we can transport them quicker.
We are so grateful to Dischem, this is the second time that they are assisting us with much-needed wheelchairs,” said Ramkumar.Dis-Chem regional manager, Candace Van Wyk. said they always try and assist NGOs where they can.
“The Dis-Chem Foundation exists because of the shoppers. Every time they swipe their rewards card, there is a percentage that goes towards the foundation.”
Van Wyk said as much as shoppers also earn points by swapping their cards, they also donate towards a worthy cause without even knowing, “we are very thankful to them towards their continued support. “Our foundation supports charities such as the children’s homes, old age homes and we donated R 50 000 worth of items to the flood victims through Gift of the Givers,” she said.
