Kloof railway project walks the walk

If you go into Kloof today, you're in for a big surprise! The Kloof Project has revamped the walkway, go look, we tell no lies!

THE SPAR Walk’s railway pedestrian crossing has received a much-needed revamp and facelift.

With thanks to the dedicated members of the Kloof Project, locals can now make use of the beautiful, safe space.

“After many years of patience as the landscaped gardens within the Spar Walk railway pedestrian crossing precinct were destroyed by the aqua duct work, The Kloof Project are at last able to begin restoration work,” said the chairman of The Kloof Project, Chris Dalzell.

“With Esor going into business rescue, their earlier promise to restore it could not be realised. A minimal amount of funds were diverted as some compensation.”

The company’s site engineer, Duane Killian, willingly went the extra mile to further assist the local NPO and provided top soil, installed a new pathway and repaired the fence.

Several local businesses also joined in to contribute to completing the restoration.

Cynodon Specialists donated a generous 140m² instant grass, Bio Ocean Atlantic Fertilizer was supplied by Mango Moon, STHEJAX did the kerbing and pathway, Ecology Pastics provided monkey-proof bins from and Kloof Village Mall SuperSPAR have committed to re-instating the pathway lighting and signage, along with relocating planters from Stoker’s Arms.

“Our garden team have created new, feature indigenous beds, laid the instant lawn, and replaced trees lost during the Esor construction work,” said the Dalzell.

Sandra Wickee, from The Kloof Project, said, “This zone is used daily by learners from local schools, employees from homes in the area, and also serves as a welcoming environment for guests of Stoker’s Arms, and visitors on the steam train. Despite being officially Transnet property, we see this as an integral part of our CBD that needs to be kept pristine at all times for the Kloof community to take pride in.”

The committee of The Kloof Project asks residents to avoid parking along the sidewalk along Church Road.
