A ‘moo-ving’ experience

Feast your eyes on Eugene Van Vrede's art as well as Ali Isaacs' tasteful ceramics at this exclusive exhibition.

LOCAL artist, Eugene Van Vrede, will display his art at an exhibition at the Rosehill Stables in Summerveld on Sunday, 12 May from noon to 5pm.

Eugene is an up-and-coming South African artist who is fast making a name for himself for his interpretation of wildlife and rural African art.

Being an avid horse rider, he has also been commissioned to paint horses for owners, but is best known for his Nguni subjects and his passion of the Nguni heritage shines through his paintings as he carefully translates each hide onto the canvas.

He doesn’t commit to one particular subject but rather to the unique markings of Africa, be it in a Nguni hide, a zebra’s stripes or rather just the beautiful nostalgic mark that Africa leaves on your soul.

With no formal training, he was first introduced to painting by his late uncle Henry Blignaut, who was a quadriplegic who frequently contributed to the Mouth and Foot Painters Association.

He spent many school holidays assisting him with his paintings and this was where he gained the love and appreciation of oil paintings.

The exhibition will also launch talented ceramicist, Ali Isaacs. Ali has a unique style that demonstrates amazing detail that is usually portrayed by miniature roses.
