Ain’t no mountain high enough for Shongweni Dam adrenaline junkies

Meet Pa Khwela and Cyril Msani; both recently completed the Mountain Development Trust’s supervisor course and are excited for you to join them for a climb or two in the picturesque Shongweni Dam area.

WHETHER you’re an adrenaline junkie, keen to try out a new sport or have a gut-clenching fear of heights, the accredited mountain climbing duo at Shongweni Dam have your back.

Pa Khwela and Cyril Msani both recently completed the Mountain Development Trust’s supervisor course and are excited for you to join them for a climb or two in the picturesque Shongweni Dam area.

During a recent site visit, the Highway Mail watched the duo nimbly make their way down a steep crevice to begin the set up for the 17 metre abseil and mountain climb. They worked with precision and speed, while our stomachs turned, watching them from on high.

Pa, who said he has never been afraid of heights, enjoys the thrill the sport brings to his life. His climbing partner Cyril, has completed a climb that is 110 metres high.

“I am able to meet different types of people through this work and a new chapter of my life is about to begin,” he said. “Rock climbing will also help put our community on the map and bring in funding and support for the people in my community.”

The head of the Conservation Guardians, Greg Vogt, said, “It’s been so lovely to see them growing and improving!”

To book a climb, contact Sara on 078 039 9881 or Greg on 083 290 4141 or email sara@conservationguardians.co.za or greg@conservationguardians.co.za.

The cost is R200 per person. All equipment is provided but participants are encouraged to take along a water bottle and a snack.
