The station commander, Col Jabulile Magwaza said she is proud of the members who work tirelessly to solve serious cases.

KWADABEKA Police Station, one of the eight stations under the eThekwini Inner and Outer West (Pinetown Cluster), was presented with a bronze award as the ‘Best Colonel Station Overall’.

The MEC’s Excellence Awards were held by Community Safety and Liaison department led by Minister Mxolisi Kaunda.

KwaDabeka SAPS station commander, Col Jabulile Magwaza, said the members are very happy to be honoured with this award.

“This will definitely motivate them and push them to continue to give their best in serving the community in a dignified manner.”

Magwaza said the station’s ability to work well with various stakeholders such as the CPF, safer cities and other community projects played a huge role in them winning this award.

“The station has dedicated officers who give their all and who have solved a number of serious cases such as murders. In 2016, one of my members, Cst Nkosiyazi Mntungwa, won a national award at the national SAPS National Excellence Awards ceremony in the Visible Policing Employee of the Year, level 5 to 7 category,” said Magwaza.

In 2017, Det/W/O Musa Ngcamu also from KwaDabeka SAPS won in the provincial Best Warrant Officer category.

The victim-friendly services which offer counselling to crime and rape victims is also one of the services which Magwaza believes helped them to win this award.

“The station also hosts awareness campaigns and visits schools to speak about the dangers of drugs and encourage children to stay away from crime to have better futures. Our weekend operations we host usually yield good results,” she said.

People who have an addiction problem are referred to Katsi Youth Centre which helps rehabilitate them or they are directed to another rehabilitation centre in Kranskop which also works hand-in-hand with KwaDabeka Station.

Magwaza added she invites the community to work closely with them by reporting criminal activities. They can contact Magwaza on 079 6963 454 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
