Motala Heights residents urged to join the fight against crime

Councillor Marlaine Nair has propose for a satellite station in the Motala Heights area.

DA PR councillor for ward 15, Marlaine Nair has urged residents and community leaders to be hands-on in the fight against crime.

This follows a recent murder in Motala Heights and increasing complaints of disturbances at night by people suspected to be high on drugs.

“At a recent meeting held by the Motala community policing forum, the ongoing poor attendance and lack of adequate involvement by residents was noted,” said Nair.

Added to that, Nair said residents complain of criminal activity, yet fail to report crimes to the police. “I understand that perhaps residents are afraid of being victimised or targeted by the criminals and this is really sad.

“Victims should feel confident that when they report a crime, they are safe and also that a thorough investigation will be conducted timeously with feedback,” said Nair.

She added that she thinks the community of Motala Heights will benefit greatly from having a satellite police station in the area that can deal with crime speedily and also act as a deterrent.

“As soon as I have an indication of what the requirements are for such a request, I will assist the Motala CPF in making the request on behalf of the community,” she said.

In the meantime, Nair advised residents to attend meetings of the CPF as well as Civic Association meetings so that the community can be uplifted.
