Botha’s Hill woman loses hope in police

The frustrated resident said there has been so many people in her area who have experienced traumatic incidents.

A BOTHA’S Hill woman fears for her safety after her house was broken into a couple of times and police do not seem to be interested in helping her.

The woman said she has lost all hope in the justice system as Inchanga police have done absolutely nothing to assist her.

Amanda is a single woman who has been living in the Botha’s Hill area since 2016.

“I have had this house for 10 years, but I only started living here permanently since 2016. My stay here has been unpleasant to say the least as there has been numerous break-ins in the area, especially in my street and no matter how much evidence we have and information that will help our case, the Inchanga Police have done absolutely nothing to assist.

“I have had four different cases, the first in 2016 when one of my tenants caught the burglar red-handed and called the police. The police never came and the perpetrator escaped.

Amanda said the second incident took place in 2017 while she was away on business in Gauteng.

“A woman broke into my home and started living there with her family. I was informed by a neighbour and on my return, they had moved out with all my furniture and valuable belongings.

“Again I called the police, but they never came so I went to Inchanga Police Station, and it took them a month to send an investigator. By this time I already did my own research and found information regarding the suspected woman and my belongings.”

She said, eventually the detective came and the woman was found and arrested after one of her beds was discovered in the woman’s home in Cato Ridge.

“I was told there would be a case opened, but I never heard from the police again. I then went to enquire about my case and they told me the arrested woman was no longer in their hands, the Hawks had her. Just like that, my case was dismissed, without any court appearance nor correspondence with me,” she said.

Last year, Amanda said there was again another attempted burglary while they were asleep and again the police were called but never came. The burglars took what they could find outside and in the garage.

“In October in broad daylight my door was broken down and everything valuable that belonged to me and my tenants were stolen. Police were called at 3.30pm, they arrived at 11.30pm, and again did nothing but take statements. We never heard from them again even though we mentioned a suspect, they never followed through nor was the suspect questioned until today,” said Amanda.

The frustrated Amanda said there has been so many people in her area who have experienced traumatic incidents.

“It is not just me, I am now pleading with the media for assistance and support perhaps the right authorities will become aware of this matter and hopefully do something about it.

The Highway Mail asked the SAPS KZN media centre for comment and their response was: “We are advising the complainant to visit the branch commander or the station commander regarding the developments of the case.”
