Parkview Primary jumpers hit their targets

These two 12-year-olds have big dreams for their athletic performance and are making sure they are in the running to the nationals this week in Johannesburg.

ATHLETES from Parkside Primary School have been selected to represent KwaZulu-Natal and are delighted at their achievements, both on the track and in two field jumping disciplines.

Thembelihle Ntloko and Akiel Thomas are two 12-year-olds with big dreams for their athletic performance. Both in Grade 7, the pair are making sure they are in the running to the nationals this week in Johannesburg.

Ntloko has managed to make it on to the KZN team for the third year in a row now. He is confident that he will be able to beat his jump of 155cm from last year and is aiming to clear 165cms.

“I feel that 160 will even be enough though,” laughed the confident jumper who has set his sights on making it to the national team.

This year will be the first time that Thomas is making the trip to nationals.

He has qualified to compete in both the 100m sprint track event as well as the long jump.

“I managed a time of 11,90 for my sprint and 5,54m in the jump,” he said with a wry grin before explaining that he was aiming to beat 6 metres in the forthcoming competition and was aiming to break the 11,40 time for the sprint in his age group.

“I feel confident that I will be able to do it,” said the Aspire club runner.

The nationals take place from Tuesday 12 till Thursday 14 March.
