Malvern driver arrested after repeatedly trying to bribe Metro officer

A driver was arrested and charged after he tried to bribe a traffic officer who stopped him for not using his seat belt

A DRIVER was arrested and charged after he allegedly repeatedly tried to bribe a Metro police officer doing routine duties in the area last week.

Malvern SAPS communications officer, W/O Radhika Marimuthu, said the acting station commander of SAPS has commended the Metro officer for his dedication to duty by refusing the offer for a bribe and acting against the driver.

“A driver was stopped for not complying with the use of a seat belt by a Metro officer,” said Marimuthu.

“The Metro officer then proceeded to complete a fine in respect of the contravention. The driver allegedly then offered the officer a monetary bribe which the officer refused and still issued the fine. Marimuthu said the driver then allegedly persisted with his offer of the bribe and was then arrested and charged.”
