Upper Highway community bands together to fight crime

The Hillcrest CPF, SAPS and other emergency response personnel joined together for two large visibility patrols in Upper Highway recently.

WITH crime on the increase, communities and law enforcement have joined hands in a bid to show criminals they will meet resistance.

Hillcrest Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairman, Steven King, said part of the strategy is to have high visibility patrols in the community and the first one was held on Thursday, 21 February.

Stage one of the initiative saw the Hillcrest Community Police Forum, Hillcrest SAPS, Crime intelligence, SAPS Airwing, Hammarsdale CPF, Inchanga CPF, SACCW, ADT Security, Excellerate, Botha’s Hill Crime Stop, Waterfall 2 Neighbourhood Watch, Brackenhill Crime Watch, Waterfall 1 NHW, Westriding NHW, Stockville Crime Watch, Hillcrest NHW, Crestwatch Waterfall 3 and Gillitts NHW partner for patrols.

“The second exercise was to assist communities establish patrol groups and to set up CPF sub forums. This was successfully done in Stockville, where a new committee was elected,” said a proud King.

Another high visibility community standoff was held along Inanda Road at the end of February. King said more of the visibility patrols were planned for the coming weeks.

“The neighbourhood watches in Hillcrest and surrounding areas are very proactive in patrolling and assisting the SAPS with curbing crime. Should there be any community, whether rural or urban, that would like to participate, or needs help establishing patrol groups, contact me,” said King.
