CANSA Shavathon a colourful success

Blue, pink, orange, green, bald or freshly trimmed, Highway residents showed their support in as many ways as possible at this year's Shavathon.

HUNDREDS of people across the Highway area shaved, sprayed or donated their ponytails for CANSA’s 16th national Shavathon.

Shavathon is a mammoth task and more than 150 volunteers across Durban eagerly put up their hands to support the worthy cause.

CANSA is a leading role-player in cancer research and the scientific findings and knowledge gained from its research is used to realign its health programmes and strengthen its watchdog role to the greater benefit of the public.

Varsity College Westville’s Zanele Ntombela, Connor Wentzel and Lauren Waltham help their professor transition from hair to bare in this year’s Shavathon at Westville Mall.

CANSA Durban supplies patient care and support to the Mkhuhla CANSA Care Home, where CANSA-TLC lodging is also provided to parents and guardians of children undergoing cancer treatment.

Shavathons were held at the Pavilion Shopping Centre, Hillcrest Corner, Watercrest Mall, The Colony Centre, Christians Village, Kloof Village Mall, Westville Mall and Sandy Centre. “A special thank you goes out to the volunteer team leaders, volunteers, members of the community and everyone who contributed towards colouring hope in the Highway area this weekend,” said CANSA’s Janine Kyle.
