UPDATE: Westville Prison escapee rearrested

The 32-year-old man was rearrested just before noon today.

A MAN who has escaped from the Westville Prison on Monday has been rearrested.

Captain Elizabeth Squires, communications officer for Westville SAPS, confirmed that Njabulo Lucky Mbatha, who was set to appear in court for housebreaking and theft in central Durban was found at the Durban Taxi Rank at around 11:30 on Tuesday.

“He was arrested by Correctional Services Reaction Unit,” said Squires.

The 32-year-old man reportedly escaped while workers at the prison were busy with construction work.
