Prison break: Awaiting trial prisoner still on the loose after escape from Westville prison

Captain Elizabeth Squires, communications officer for Westville SAPS, said the man is still at large.

A CASE of escaping from lawful custody was registered yesterday (Monday 4 March) at Westville SAPS against a 32-year-old Njabulo Lucky Mbatha, who escaped from Westville Prison.

According to Lt-Col Thulani Zwane, a spokesman for KZN SAPS, the man escaped while workers at the prison were busy with construction work.

“Westville police are investigating,” said Zwane. “Police with K9 unit is still searching for him.”

Captain Elizabeth Squires, communications officer for Westville SAPS said on Tuesday that the man is still at large.

Squires said Njabulo Lucky Mbatha had been awaiting trial following his arrest for housebreaking and theft in central Durban.
