"A tip for the ladies, always get him to say 'yes dear', very little can go wrong when you are in agreement,"- Pam.

PETER and Pam Du Plessis have enjoyed a life of love, laughs and lots of travel in their 50 years of marriage.

“When we moved, we lived in Pinetown and stayed there until we moved to a Winston Park retirement home nine years ago,” said Peter.

The couple met through a Methodist church guild when they were 16 years of age, became friends and got engaged years later. When asked about their wedding their faces lit up simultaneously.

“Our wedding day was wonderful, everything went according to plan and we didn’t even mind that it rained,” said Pam.

The couple soon started a family and had a girl and boy, a pair they say was lovely to raise.

“They were a joy especially when they were small,” said Pam.

After having the children, Pam decided to take a break from her secretary job to focus on raising them. “When the kids were a bit older I travelled around the world with my husband as work took him overseas a lot,” she added.

“We have a beautiful relationship with the children and we are fortunate that all four of our grandchildren live in the area,” said Peter.

The couple said the key to a successful marriage is friendship. “We are best of friends, we are compatible and we get along. We enjoy doing things together.

“A tip for the ladies, always get him to say ‘yes dear’, very little can go wrong when you are in agreement,” Pam added.

The Du Plessis’ are in their 70s and love to travel together as much as they can. According to Peter they have put travelling abroad on hold as they have enough of our beautiful country to see.
