Wandering dog rescued at Pinetown petrol station

The dog has since been handed into the care of the Kloof and Highway SPCA.

A BLUE Security armed response officer stepped in to help a dog that was found wandering in a parking lot of a petrol station in Pinetown last night.

Blue Security’s community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios, said the man who had spotted the dog flagged down the armed response officer just before midnight.

“The officer approached the dog, which appeared to be in good condition and very friendly,” said Mathios.

Mathios and his wife Nikki, the owner of Pinetown Pet Rescue, were contacted and they raced to the site.

“We sent out notifications on our social media groups that the dog had been found but have not yet received any information regarding who the owners might be,” said Mathios.

The dog was handed over to the Kloof and Highway SPCA, until its owner can be located.

“The officer later discovered that the dog had been hanging around the garage for about two hours before he intervened,” Mathios said.

The armed response officer was considering adopting the lost dog, if the owners cannot be found.

Mathios added that the volunteer group has received numerous reports of dog thefts in Durban in recent weeks and cautioned residents to keep their dogs inside the house at night.
