A MOSELEY Park resident survived a brutal panga attack in her home in the early hours of this Saturday morning.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios said the 51-year-old woman was awoken by a noise in her Nipper Place home at around 3am and she got up to investigate.
“The woman found the suspect in her lounge where he was attempting to steal the television.”
“She confronted him and he pulled out a panga and started hacking her with it before fleeing the scene without the television, running into nearby bushes,” Mathios said.
“The woman sustained serious injuries to her right arm and left fingers. A family member drove her to hospital,” added Mathios.

According to Mathios, the suspect had approached the property from nearby bushes and had forced his way into the house through the front door.
A crowbar, which the suspect had used to force open the front door, was found at the scene of the crime.
Moseley Neighbourhood Watch attended and assisted at the scene of the crime together with Malvern SAPS which is investigating the case.
Mathios advised residents not to confront suspects if they manage to gain entry onto the property.
“Criminals have the advantage of the element of surprise which unfortunately gives them the upper hand in housebreaking and home invasion incidents. As a home owner you never know whether suspects may be armed or not so it is safer not to confront them if they have managed to gain entry onto your property.
“Even if there appears to be just one suspect, you just don’t know whether he has accomplices waiting outside. Armed robbers usually operate in gangs of at least three to six members,” Mathios said.
“Unfortunately, there are far too many cases where residents who have confronted intruders have been seriously injured, or worse, during an attack on their properties. If you suspect that there may be an intruder on your property, rather press your panic button and let your security company respond to the scene to investigate.”
