Fund-raiser motors two cars for Highway Hospice

For the past 36 years, Barloworld Ford have raised funds to replace the oldest and most used vehicles in the Hospice.

BARLOWORLD Ford delivered two new cars to be used by the Highway Hospice ‘Angels of the community’.

The Angels of the community are the Hospice nurses who provide care, comfort, dignity and support to the terminally ill in the greater Durban area. Many of the patients and families cared for are living their last days of a long fight with cancer.

Highway Hospice fund-raiser, John Olds, said this was made possible because of a 36-year-old relationship with some special people linked to Barloworld Ford.

“These people arrange the Barloworld Family Sports weekend annually. For all these years they have raised funds to replace the oldest and most used vehicles in the Hospice fleet through this special weekend,” said Olds.

This year, the team raised enough money to replace two vehicles.

CEO of The Highway Hospice, Linda Webb, said this is a truly fantastic effort in mobilising donors in such a tough economic climate.

“It takes a huge effort in arranging the event and leveraging support and we are so grateful. Many of the Highway Hospice patients are bedridden, and without the home care nurses they could not receive critical medications and care. The value driven into our organisation over these years through this event is incomprehensible,” said Webb.
