Pinetown’s Caleb to swim a mile for charity with the maniacs

Celotti has been training with the Midmar Maniacs with coach, Melanie Visagie which means he has a whole team of supportive friends who will encourage him during the race.

FORMER Browns’ School learner, Caleb Celotti, is set to swim his third Midmar Mile this Saturday amaing to raise funds for a charity close to his heart.

The Pinetown resident has started a BackaBuddy crowd-funding campaign for the Rainbows and Smiles Foundation and to date has raised more than R24 000 for the charity.

Rainbows and Smiles Foundation provides emotional, social and financial support to families and caregivers in need when a child or children of that family are diagnosed with a life threatening illness such as cancer.

Rainbows and Smiles encourage childhood cancer awareness to educate in the hope of promoting early detection.

“The reason I am swimming for this charity is because it doesn’t matter what life throws at you, you must still count your blessings and thank God for everything you have.

“When an opportunity arises to give back, then you need to do it and appreciate that you can,” said Celotti.

Celotti has been training with the Midmar Maniacs with coach, Melanie Visagie which means he has a whole team of supportive friends who will encourage him during the race.

“Melanie started the swimming programme a good couple of years ago and gets these kids to literally do the impossible or something that most people would not even consider, swimming The Midmar Mile. She takes time after school and Saturdays to train them at the Browns’ School pool to make sure they are ready for it.

“Caleb is no longer at Browns but has continued his swimming with Seagulls Swimming Club and will continue to swim The Capital K and Midmar Mile with The Midmar Maniacs thanks to Melanie,” said Caleb’s mom, Laura Celotti.
