Park off at Kloof’s breathtaking reserve

While Gandalf uttered to Fordo to 'Keep it secret, keep it safe', trustee, Chris Harburn, has let the proverbial cat out of the bag and invites residents to picnic at this hidden gem in Kloof.

THE secret is out! The hidden gem along Haygarth Road is the perfect place for you to relax with friends and family or, if you’re so inclined, a place to burn some extra calories with a run or a hike.

Nkonka Trust is 50 hectares of pure greenery, natural grasslands and, for those lucky enough to spot them, is also home to a few buck.

“We want to encourage people to walk and the more walkers there are, the more eyes there are out there,” said trustee, Chris Harburn.

“There are such gorgeous views, all the way to uMhlanga,” he said as he points far off into the distance.

His hopes are to one day link it up to Giba Gorge and the Mike Cheesman Nature Reserve.

The property is managed by five trustees, all of whom give of their time freely to ensure this slice of nature is preserved for all residents to enjoy.

There are two full-time employees who spend their days removing the alien invasive plants and have also cleared a trail that tuns along the reserve’s perimeter wall.

“Nkonka Trust relies on donations for the maintenance and upkeep of the property. Please make use of the Zapper QR code (on a board on site) to donate whatever amount you can. We appreciate every bit of your financial support to help with the trust’s goals and objectives,” said Chris.

With the funds raised from this, trails and tracks will be made to encourage mountain bike riders to make use of the reserve.

The gates to the gorgeous reserve are open to the public from 6am until 6pm from Monday to Sunday.

There is ample parking and dogs on leashes are allowed on the property.
