One arrested for Gillitts assault and robbery

Once SAPS arrived at the scene, the two armed response officers went in search of the domestic worker's attackers.

TWO response officers tracked down and arrested one of the two men who assaulted a domestic worker and robbed her place of work in Gillitts, yesterday.

The Excellerate monitoring centre received a panic signal from Woodlands Road in Gillitts, and the Armed Response team and Tactical Intervention Unit were dispatched.

When armed response officer Jugdeo arrived at the premises of the alarm activation, he spoke to the client and was informed that someone in their neighbour’s home was in distress.

Jugdeo responded and met with the domestic worker who said she was attacked by two men. She  said she escaped and the two men fled the scene.

Jugdeo and fellow armed response officer, Hlambisa, noted the description of both suspects and, upon the arrival of SAPS, departed from the scene to patrol the area.

“The officers noticed two males who fitted the description of the suspects. As they attempted to stop and question them, the suspects fled towards the railway tracks. Both officers gave chase and successfully apprehended one of the suspects,” said the marketing manager for Excellerate Services, Grant Frost.

The man admitted to assaulting the domestic worker with his colleague, who had stolen items from the Hillcrest home, before they fled.
