Be a hero, help save three lives
Visit the Highway Mail on Friday, 18 January between 9am and noon to donate the precious gift of life.
WITH the current blood stock level sitting at just 3.1 days, the Highway Mail and the South African National Blood Service is making an urgent appeal for regular and new donors to support its upcoming blood drive.
According to the SANBS, it aims to collect 3 000 units of blood per day to ensure there is a sufficient and safe supply of blood in the system.
To help contribute to the required number of units, Highway Mail will be hosting a blood drive, at its offices on Friday, 18 January at 115 Escom Road, New Germany, Pinetown. The blood drive is open to the public and will be held from 9am to noon.
Speaking about the importance of blood donations and to encourage residents to show their support, editor of the Highway Mail, Michelle Dennis said, “Every blood donor is a life saver and donating blood is the most precious and valued gift to your fellow man. A favourite quote, from the American Red Cross is, “Starve a vampire, donate blood!”.

If you would like to support the blood drive, the following requirements need to be met: You must be between the ages of 16 and 65, weigh more than 50kg, lead a sexually healthy lifestyle and be healthy on the day of donation. Donors are encouraged to have a balanced and healthy meal within four hours of donating.
A minimum of three lives can be saved with every unit of blood as blood is separated into red blood cells, plasma and platelets. Find the hero in you and help save those who desperate for a life-changing blood transfusion.
