Twelve drunk drivers arrested during Clermont roadblock

During the joint operation, a 22 year-old suspect was also arrested for possession of 110 loops of substance suspected to be heroin.

A JOINT operation between SAPS, Metro Police, Customs, Liquor Board and other law enforcement agencies yielded good results when 12 drunk drivers were arrested during a roadblock in Clermont just before the new year.

Motorists were also charged for various traffic offences and eight shebeens were raided and liquor was seized by police.

Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele said during this operation, a 22- year-old suspect was arrested for possession of 110 loops of substance suspected to be heroin.

“A 45-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of stolen vehicle and another 28-year-old suspect was charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm and 13 live rounds of ammunition,” said Manqele.

All the suspects were charged and they appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 31 December 2018.
