Winston Park beauty thrives on the catwalk

Winston Park beauty was placed first princess at the Miss India Continent pageant, hosted in India recently.

WINSTON Park catwalk queen, Kim Govender, was overwhelmed after claiming the title of first princess for the Miss India Continent pageant.

Kim was given the opportunity to represent South Africa on an international platform after winning the Zee TV Miss India South Africa International.

The 20-year-old law student started modelling as a hobby at the age of seven to build her confidence and self esteem.

At the Miss India Continent pageant, hosted in Mumbai, India on 15 November, Kim also received India’s Glory award for fashion and modelling.

She said she is still coming to terms with being placed first princess as the competition was very tough.

“The overall experience has afforded me the opportunity to meet amazing people and create unforgettable memories which I will cherish forever.”

Next year will be Kim’s graduating year for her BCom law degree so she intends on focusing on her studies, but at the same time she is open to any opportunity that comes her way. “I intend to use my reign to empower the women and youth of our country as I believe that women have the power to make a change and if we stand together, we strive together.

“To me modelling is regarded as a lifestyle of its own, it ensures you stay fit and at the top of your game at all times. The modelling industry is competitive, therefore, allowing you to grow through every experience. The modelling industry gives you the opportunity to develop as an individual. Personally it has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and be more confident in who I am,” said Kim.

Asked about a highlight so far, Kim said she had many. “The people I have met and the experiences and memories made is the most important part of my journey as I have learnt and grown as a person. I am so thankful to everyone who has supported me throughout my journey and for the blessings I have received,” she added.

In her spare time, she enjoys expressing herself through dance and singing as well as travelling.
