Donate your pre-loved items to Hillcrest Highway Hospice

Clearing out your home is said to be

DO a pre-holiday clean-out and donate your unwanted stuff to Highway Hospice.

Most people have many items in cupboards and that they no longer need or use, but have an emotional bond with them.

In this day of minimalism, it is really cathartic to clear out these items, but it is often hard to let go!

So much better to donate them to a charity shop, where a buyer will pounce on them with delight.

The Highway Hospice is desperately in need of pre-owned goodies for its Hillcrest shop which is undergoing a facelift.

“Furniture, appliances, crockery, cutlery, clothing, shoes, glassware and pictures, mirrors and linen, jewellery, toys and books, we have buyers for all. Why not do a pre-Christmas springclean and we will collect from you if your load is big enough,” said Robbie Slabbert of the Hospice shops.

Call 031 709 2647 to make arrangements or you can drop off your items at the shop in Margaret Road, Hillcrest (near Richdens Spar) or at the warehouse, 5 Butts Road, Pinetown.

Please note, do not give your donated items to the ‘car guards’ loitering outside the Hillcrest Hospice shop.

“We are having a huge security issue with bogus car guards at the Hillcrest shop,” said Sheryll de Jager, HOD of Charity shops.

“They offer to carry donations to the shop, but steal them instead. We have lost thousands of Rands worth of donations. Please be aware that we have staff in the shop who will readily help you. We are working on this problem”

All funds raised go towards supporting the palliative care provided by Hospice to terminally ill patients and their families.

No-one is ever turned away, and often the service is provided for free.
