Open your heart at carnival in support of Pinetown’s Open Door

There will be art on sale, local graffiti artist, Giffy will paint a gigantic mural that will be auctioned off and there will be a host of fun activities for the whole family.

WITH Christmas looming on the horizon, a festive feeling is in the air, yet for the Open Door Crisis Care Centre, it is a time of sadness.

The NPO’s outlook is bleak as it is faced with the very real threat of staff cuts.

The high inflation rate and overburdened resources made for a tough year as donations and commitments dried up.

A group of local artists, led by Pinetown based Split Splat Art Academy, under the banner of Artists Against Abuse, have risen to the challenge.

Tracey Dougans, owner of the academy, has drawn together a selection of talented artists to exhibit and sell their beautiful creations at 20 Manors Road on Sunday, 25 November from 9am to 3pm in a community orientated carnival environment.

The local neighbourhood watch has adopted the celebration and will assist. All sorts of attractions will be available including face-painting, candle-dipping and lots of art activities for the kids to enjoy while the adults take in the art talent.

A raffle will be held in an effort to raise funds for Open Door and representatives will be present to discuss the activities of the organisation.

The main attraction will be a live street art demonstration by Gifford ‘Giffy’ Duminy, a local street artist whose work can be seen all over the country.

His art normally adorns buildings and fixed structures, however, this mural will be a free-standing portable work of art setting a record in its class as one of Giffy’s biggest free-standing paintings.

It comprises a total of 12,5 square metres. Once the mural is complete, it will be auctioned to raise the much-needed funds for the Open Door Crisis Centre.
