Roof collapses at Bargain Basket in Pinetown, one trapped

ONE person is trapped and multiple others were injured in an alleged roof collapse at the Bargain Basket store in Pinetown.

Rescue Care’s Garrith Jamieson, said, “Rescue Care paramedics are currently on scene of a structural collapse in the Pinetown area. At this stage one person is entrapped underneath the scaffolding. Multiple patients have been injured. Further updates to follow.”

A frantic call from a customer in the store alerted the Highway Mail to the incident. She said, ” I heard a crash and a scream in the store.”

Bargain basket was contacted to confirm the incident: “We are really busy right now. Call back tomorrow.”

The Highway Mail then asked to speak to a manager regarding the incident. The woman who answered the phone responded, “Call back tomorrow” and cut the call.
