A LONG-standing resident of Queensburgh has died, leaving a gap in the community which will be felt by both those who knew her and those whose lives were touched by her work.

She was 71 and would have celebrated her 72nd birthday last month.

“Besides working as an estate agent at Dormehl Property Group during her later years, Linda was very active in fund-raising for Cheshire Homes, Ethelbert Home, Flame Lily and the Queensburgh Methodist Church, where she worshipped,” said a close friend of the family, Lizelle Bright adding that Linda took on many roles in the myriad organisations she was part of.

“She was pancake-maker, Women’s Auxilliary member and president, an active member of Queensburgh Caring Association, a stalwart of a Bible study group who also had many outreach programmes and a participant in a book club, craft club and many other activities,” said Bright.

“One knew Linda was on a mission when you saw her spotless little yellow Volksie bouncing around the roads of Queensburgh, with Linda behind the wheel, often on her way to see a sick acquaintance or visiting someone in need, be it to drop off a meal, or just popping in to lend an ear, always mindful of people’s needs.”

Linda fell gravely ill mid-August and spent her last few weeks on life support at the Ahmed Al-Kadi Hospital, and died on 26 September.

She is survived by her husband, Ben, their two daughters, Yvonne and Belinda, and their four granddaughters, Rachelle and Megan (15), and Amy and Haley (13).

“Ben is staying with Belinda in Waterfall and said every time he comes to Queensburgh he is asked about Linda because so many people knew and loved her,” said Bright.

Ben thanks all those who knew and loved her for the role they played in their lives.
