Bikers spill blood for SANBS

The Monster Motorcycle Club donated blood for the oncoming festive season.

LOCAL bikers have done their bit to collect blood for the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) before the busy festive season begins.

Many years ago, Monster Motorcycle Club (MC) arranged for two blood runs each year to help the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) collect blood donations to build up the supply before the holiday season in March and December each year.

However, for a variety of reasons, there hasn’t been regular blood drives the past few years, something the present club leaders say they want to change.

MONSTERS MC President, Spike Arendse, donating blood.

“It is important that the supply of blood from donations is increased prior to the busy festive season when the road accident tolls are very bad,” said Sergent At Arms, Aiken Croukamp, one of the Monsters MC members who encouraged bikers to attend the club’s blood drive on Sunday at Peace Park, Queensburgh. Two dozen pints were collected by the friendly SANBS staff.

According to club president, Spike Arendse, the event was made possible by the kindness of many sponsors including Lupo Bakery, Cocorico Farm, Crown National, Terioka, PS Consultants, UBS Packaging, Sangero Chicken, Dirks Meats, BMW Umhlanga, Tazz Motorcycles, Hillary Spar, Braai Brand, and Fruit and Veg City, Malvern.
