BURST water pipes have continued to plague communities across Ward 18 said local councillor, Melanie Brauteseth.
“In September this year there was a spate of water interruptions in the Underwood Road and Mosely Park area that led to much acrimony and public meetings with the relevant officials,” said Brauteseth.
No sooner had these problems been alleviated, when other problems arose in the Blood Bank area in the last week of October.
Pipes burst in Rohrs, Clendinning, Peace and Robin Road and left residents without water for days. The road surface in certain areas was also destroyed.

Councillor Brauteseth intervened and conducted inspections with the water engineering superintendent and area water engineer.
The problem was identified as ageing infrastructure that was unable to cope with water pressure.
“Temporary measures will be installed next week in the form of pressure reduction valves in Stapleton Road and above surface temporary piping in affected areas to ensure uninterrupted water supply,” she said.
With the temporary measures in place, Brauteseth said she was committed to working on a long-term solution. “I have engaged with the relevant officials and have secured an agreement to install new pipes in the Underwood, Entabeni, Mosely Park and Paradise Valley areas. These plans are currently in the design and costing phase,” said Brauteseth.
