Pinetown Rotary Club supports young leaders

The Grade 11 learners share what they learnt about leadership.

YOUNG, dynamic future leaders from KwaNdengezi and Clermont had a chance to share their experiences on an informative leadership training programme held in Port Shepstone in September.

Four of the six learners each gave a report back at the Rotary Club of Pinetown`s monthly lunchtime meeting. The learners were chosen by their teachers who saw potential and leadership skills in them.

The Grade 11 learners from Ziphathele, Ndengetho and Ntee high schools were among a group of 84 learners from KwaZulu-Natal who attended the Youth Leadership Course from Sunday, 30 September to Sunday, 6 October, hosted by the Rotary Club of Port Shepstone.

The learners thanked the Rotary Club of Pinetown for sponsoring them on the course.

Learners share what they learnt about leadership

Sifiso Shozi (Ndengetho) – I learnt that a true leader does not run away from problems, instead a leader finds a solution to a problem. As a leader, there are times where you will face obstacles but a leader needs to be patient and before he/she acts.

Sanele Mpanza (Ziphathele) – I learnt that no one is an expert in leadership, as a leader you have to listen to other people’s views. If you are a leader, you must have good communication skills.

Nokuphila Ndwalane (Ndengetho) – For me, I learnt that values are the foundation of our lives. There are many things that we value but we do not take notice until they are gone. Being part of this course made me realise my values.

Ncamisile Dhlamini (Ziphathele) – As a leader, one needs to lead with confidence, self- belief, courage and determination. A leader needs to have a clear vision with purposeful goals of where heor she is going and what he or she wants to achieve in their role as a leader in their school.
