LISTEN: Woman thanks God for delay that saved her from armed robbery at bank

An emotional voice note from a woman in Queensburgh is spreading via social media about how she narrowly missed being stuck in the middle of an alleged armed robbery thought to have taken place at a Malvern Bank today.

IN an emotional message being shared via groups on WhatsApp, a woman has expressed relief and thanks to her maker for sparing her from being caught up in events outside a Queensburgh bank on Thursday morning.

The woman, who only identifies herself as Lorna in the voice note, could not keep the emotion out of her voice as she recounted how being prevented by roadworks from taking the route she usually takes ended up saving her the trauma of being in a horrible situation.

The woman said she was going to the bank, but was prevented from taking what she described as “the little road here by Parkside school.”

“The road was blocked so I had to turn back,” she continues describing the route she then had to take via Ridley Park Road which she estimates caused her a delay of about five or six minutes.

When she arrived at the bank, Lorna said in the voice note that just after parking she heard a terrible commotion and saw men running out of the bank with weapons.

“There were three guys with AK47s in the banking hall where the ATMs are,” she said. “Apparently the one guy said the guy put an AK47 to his head.”

She said that she thought at first it was security or something but it dawned on her eventually that the situation was far more serious.

“I just want to say God is so Good I would have walked right into it. Please be careful, just be careful please!” she said ending off her voice note with a faltering voice on the verge of tears.

The Queensburgh News is expecting updates on this story as it unfolds including a statement from police at Malvern SAPS.
