From film to fashion, Cowies Hill’s Silomo keeps rising

Cowies Hill resident, Silomo Ntombela recently showcased her new line, Love Curvy, at the Fashion Exchange 2018.

FASHION designer and entrepreneur, Silomo Ntombela, has mastered the common thread between style and business and there is no stopping her.

She recently showcased her new line, Love Curvy, at the Fashion Exchange 2018 hosted by the KZN Fashion Council.

“Love Curvy is not only a line, but a pop-up movement, a collabaration of different designers for strictly plus-size women from the ages of 30 to 65,” she said.

The Cowies Hill resident, studied film and media at the University of Cape Town, worked in the film industry for a while in shows such as The Amazing Race SA and The Biggest Loser.

After her work on television productions, she was awarded a bursary by the Fashion Council to study Fashion Entrepreneurship through the UKZN Business School and immediately afterwards, worked for Miss MoneyPenny, best known for interesting, bold, fuller-figure fashion.” After working with the Miss MoneyPenny brand, I branched out and launched my own line in 2011, Silomo’s Boutique. I stocked clothing by other designers in South Africa as well as my own work,” she said.

This enthusiastic businesswoman has had three boutiques around Durban which she has closed down to focus on a smaller studio.

She said the only things she loves more than fabric is her family and God.

She is the youngest of three, a self-acclaimed mommy and daddy’s girl and she admits that she can’t do anything without God.

“The church plays a huge role in my life, my relationship with God is the most important thing to me,” she said.

As a single woman in her 30s, Silomo loves travelling and has explored the USA and London many times and if she is not in a foreign country, she prefers to be at home.

“I have lived in Cowies Hill for 18 years and I love it here, we have an awesome view. I love the fact that we are away from the city. I love the hills,” she said.

Silomo said the highlights of her career include being featured in the Destiny Magazine, styling local telenovela, Uzalo and travelling to London for a curvy convention.
