Tayla is a dancing queen

The young local recently did South Africa proud as she won a slew of medals in the recent World Championships of Performing Arts.

WESTVILLE’S Tayla Morrow competed in the World Championships of Performing arts (WCOPA) in Los Angeles and returned victorious with a slew of medals.

More than 3 000 contestants from 63 countries participated in the competition across the platforms of dance, acting, vocals, instruments and modelling.

Tayla proudly represented South Africa and returned with four gold medals, one silver medal and four bronze medals for acting and dancing.

She also achieved the highest mark (above 95 per cent) in her dance categories for which she received a Divisional Award for Best Dancer across the 16 to 24 age category.

She was also one of the few participants to be awarded a partial scholarship to the New York Film Academy valued at $10 000 (R145 970).

Tayla attends dance lessons at the Jingles and Jazz Dance studio in Westville with Fiona Barnes and Kerry Brown and received acting guidance from the director of performing arts at Westville Boys’ High School, Luke Holder.

“I would like to thank my parents, family and teachers for being an integral part of my performing journey and for their support and encouragement,” said Tayla.
Auditions for the next round of regional qualifiers take place in September this year at the Roy Couzens Theatre at Westville Boys’ High School.
