Run boldly into a brighter future with HACT

If you are an avid runner and are wanting to up your fitness for next year's Comrades Marathon, while supporting a great cause, Run for Hope with HACT this September.

WHILE Comrades Marathon 2019 entries only open on 19 October, the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust (HACT) will launch its Comrades campaign on Saturday, 22 September.

The organisation’s Comrades ambassador, Dean Wight, and his Beloved Long Run group, will kick off the campaign with a 25km training run at 5am from the HACT centre to Inchanga and back.

“Along the way, the runners will of course get to see our 2019 Comrades painting outside Embocraft in Botha’s Hill,” said HACT’s marketing and fund-raising manager, Claire Hodgkinson.
The acrylic painting, donated and painted by volunteer and supporter, Sally Jones, took three months to complete.

For the average Joe, it may just depict a man going for a daily job, but there is a far deeper meaning ingrained in the bold artwork.

“The runner is running on a beaded road that depicts the AIDS symbol. The sunrise over the mountains represents hope while the sunlight shining on him represents the hope he carries for the nation,” said Sally.

“I have a very bold and bright style and can be quite impressionistic. I must thank Sharon Fourie from Art Shack for her help and guidance,” she said.

Help HACT build a brighter future for children:

“There are more than two million AIDS orphans in SA and 2 000 new infections occur among young girls every week. HACT’s children’s programmes provide targeted care and support to orphaned and vulnerable children, those whose parents are ill, have lost their parents, are HIV positive, are at high risk of becoming infected as well as those struggling with adherence,” said Claire.

Dean raised R327 000 for this year’s run and has set his 2019 target at R350 000.

Funds raised through HACT’s 2019 Run for Hope Comrades campaign will go directly to helping HACT give these orphaned and vulnerable children hope for a brighter future.
