Mystery surrounds alleged New Germany hijacking

The preliminary investigation by police revealed the victim was hijacked in Montclair and not in New Germany. The child (6) was found on the same day in Mahatma Gandhi Hospital with no injuries.

A CASE of hijacking, which was reported at Pinetown SAPS on Saturday, has turned out to be a mystery for police as the victim’s report differs from police findings.

According to Pinetown cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele, the victim reported a case of carjacking at Pinetown SAPS, alleging that he was hijacked at the corner of Dinkelman and Qashana Khuzwayo Road by three armed men.

“The victim said the suspects took his VW Golf 7, a cellphone, laptop and fled with his six-year- old daughter.”

Manqele said the preliminary investigation by police revealed the victim was hijacked in Montclair and he was actually driving red VW Polo not a VW Golf 7 as he alleged.

“The suspects drove from Montclair and dropped the victim in New Germany at the corner of Dinkelman and Qashana Khuzwayo Road. The vehicle was then recovered in Mariannridge and the child was found on the same day at Mahatma Gandhi hospital with no injuries,” said Manqele.
