Take a bite out of burger day

The children from Heroes of Hope were excited to receive delicious burgers in celebration of National Hamburger Day.

WHAT could possibly be tastier than biting into a juicy burger? Absolutely nothing.

In celebration of National Hamburger day, Main SPAR donated 10 hamburgers, chips, refreshments, ice-cream and party packs for the children at Heroes of Hope in Cowies Hill.

Four years ago, Lara Lundy began her journey as a part-time foster parent to orphaned, abused, drug addicted and neglected children at risk.

To date she has four permanent foster children living with her that call her mom.

Heroes of Hope was launched and soon opened its doors to more foster children over the following weeks, months and years.

Other children are welcomed into the home on weekends and school holidays.

Lara is a single mom with the dream of facilitating more children as there is such a desperate need. She has given up her full time career and lives on a bare minimum wage to support and take care of children at risk.

“She is a customer of ours and we wanted to give back to her and treat the children in her care,” said the main group of SPAR’s group promotions and advertising officer, Tersia Taskes.
