Carol’s love touches many hearts

Carol Schroeder has made a difference to many families in the Embo area through her soup kitchen and care.

THE situation that the senior citizens were living under before Carol Schroeder came into their lives has not changed, but their attitude has become positive.

Known as an angel to many, Embo elderlies, Carol, founder of Twinkle Star Foundation, feeds many families in the valley and gives gogos a chance to be grannies at least once a week.

“When I started this soup kitchen, most of them were hopeless, walking with their shoulders down.

“Grannies are very important in our lives and at their age they should be pampered and resting but that is not the case for many of them. They have been forced into motherhood due to various circumstances which are beyond their control.”

With her husband’s support, Schroeder goes out to the valley with cooked meals to serve to the elderly people.

“For that one day, they do not have to worry about what they are going to eat but can gather there and have a chance to catch up and share their stories with others,” she said.

Now, Carol knows each and every gogo and grandpa by name, their grandchildren and even the grannies’ shoe sizes.

Schroeder will be opening a beauty spa in the middle of August and could not leave her ‘sweethearts’ behind as on Thursday, 2 August, she decided to treat and pamper them first.

The special guests enjoyed massages on their legs, arms, head and shoulders. They were also given food parcels which were donated by Robin Hood Foundation.

There were volunteers from Durban Massage Centre and Schroeder’s friends and family who made sure the grannies were well taken care of. The grannies said they were very grateful for the love and support they receive from Schroeder.

“She is a blessing to us, we love her and we always pray that God keep her safe and bless her abundantly for her beautiful heart and soul,” said the grannies.
