Donation helps secure Ikhethelo Children’s Village

Trellidor donated R75 000 worth of security gates to the Ikhethelo Children's Village in the Valley of 1 000 Hills.

TO restore a sense of safety at Ikhethelo Children’s Village, Trellidor donated 10 security gates for the cottages recently.

The villager’s manager, Graeme Wright, said there was a break-in three months ago and a TV and phone was stolen.

“I am glad that the children were unharmed but the incident created alarm and fear in the village,” he said. “It got to a point where the children were pushing their sofas up against the doors at night.”

The company’s materials manager and head of CSI, Wayne Halgryn, said the donation was facilitated by the Rotary Club of Hillcrest as they notified them of the village’s need of stronger security measures. The company donated 10 security gates to the value of R75 000 to the village.

“Children are the future for us. It feels awesome to give back. We brought along the whole team from the office. We made lunch for the children, played soccer with them, donated soccer balls, and have a donated cake from Denise’s Celebration Cakes for dessert,” said Wayne.

“Thank you Trellidor. This donation certainly ties in with your stated mission of ensuring that all citizens have the right to feel safe and secure. Thank you to Colin Head of our Rotary Club for facilitating this donation,” said the president of the Rotary Club of Hillcrest, William Gibson.

The Rotary Club has been intrinsically involved at Ikhethelo since helping raise the funds to purchase the land in 1995.

“We have many successful on-going community service projects ranging from youth and the elderly to vulnerable people and conservation. We encourage any other corporates who may want to make a difference in their community to contact us,” said William.

The club’s two large upcoming projects include the building of new ablution facilities at Gillitts Primary School and the refurbishment of units and the communal room at iKhethelo Children’s Village.

The Rotary Club of Hillcrest meets every Monday at the Hillcrest Sports Club from 6.30pm. Contact Robbie Howes on 084 510 2131.
