Asanda cycles up a storm

Fulton School for the Deaf's SPAR Star of the Month - July 2018.

FULTON School for the Deaf’s Asande Dlomo is its SPAR Star of the Month.

Cycling has become a popular sport at Fulton School and was first introduced by its now retired principal, Beryl Campbell, as a development sport project. This enabled the school to appoint Zakes Mkhize as a coach for the learners. He has done a fantastic job and the school has produced a number of excellent cyclists with a few even making the South African Development Squad.

Asande is a Grade 6 learner at the school and has been attending cycling training sessions and was a member of the team that entered the KZN Duathlon trials earlier in the year.

She was the first deaf girl to be selected for the KZN Duathlon team and took part in the SA Championship at Midmar Dam recently.

“She did very well and the school is extremely proud of both Asande and her coach,” said the school’s PRO, Alta Du Toit. “We look forward to the development of this young girl in the cycling world.”
