Cat charity is in urgent need of wheels

The Feral Cat Feeding Scheme needs your support.

TO ensure their much-needed work can continue, the Feral Cat Feeding Scheme appeals to animal lovers in the Highway area to sponsor a vehicle or donate towards the purchase of a new one. The organisation’s trusty steed was recently downgraded to junk status and the car’s licence was removed by a Metro official.

According to Steve Pitches-Levin of the Feral Cat Feeding Scheme, the vehicle’s gearbox was removed and needed to be replaced but, due to its age, a replacement part cannot be found.

“The other problems include the brakes, carburettor, a petrol leak and white smoke coming from the exhaust,” said a stressed Pitches-Levin.

He said the organisation could simply not afford to purchase or finance a new or used vehicle on their own.

The vehicle is used to transport the organisation’s second-hand goods to markets and shopping centres around the greater Durban area. These items are then sold and the money raised is used to purchase food and cover the cost of spaying and neutering the cats under its care.

The objective of the Feral Cat Feeding Scheme is to curb the over population of feral cats in Durban and surrounds.

One of the 34 cats the family looks after at the sanctuary costs about R500 per month as it is diabetic.

Should a local company fulfill the request of a new car donation, the Highway Mail will publicise the handover.

Or, you can make a monetary donation to the cause.
