Teenage girl mugged in Pinetown

A co-worker who witnessed the incident gave chase and luckily the suspect threw the phone back at him.

A TEENAGE girl, who was mugged outside her workplace in Underwood Road, Pinetown, has issued a warning for people to be wary of their surroundings as the man who mugged her was not even armed.
The distraught 19-year-old, who wished to remain anonymous, said she was standing along Underwood Road on the side walk waiting to be picked up at around 5.10pm when she saw a man, who looked very suspicious, briskly walking towards her.
“The man leaned in towards me, away from the traffic then he demanded in a violent tone to give him my phone. I held on tight to my phone and I couldn’t resist the force of his hands pulling my wrist so I let go and screamed.”
The victim said the suspect has been seen on several occasions walking along Underwood Road. According to her, the man is usually spotted wearing a bright green shirt with a blue overall top, takkies, dark grey jeans, torn shoes and probably in his 20s.
“I was lucky that my co-worker was driving past and saw what happened. He stopped to give chase and the suspect threw the phone at him.”
“A lovely couple also came to my rescue after hearing my screams. Mzanzi Security also came, a few minutes later,” she said.
She added that she would also like to thank everyone who assisted during this ordeal.
