Cowies Hill couple share their love story

Yvonne and Bob Moore celebrated their diamond anniversary on 27 June.

YVONNE might have been young and inexperienced when she married the love of her life, Bob Moore, but that has proved to be the best decision as after 60 years, the couple are still together and will be celebrating their diamond anniversary.

Bob and his friend, Alec Gerrie, came from Ireland to South Africa in 1957 – his first trip.

“I met Yvonne for the first time when we went to meet the owners of the boarding house we were staying in, Frank and Jack Holder. Although she was sitting with her boyfriend, she caught my eyes and little did I know that I would be married within a year,” said Bob.

He said there is so much to love about Yvonne, “She is an extremely caring person.”

Bob said a three-week trip to then, Rhodesia, was what made him decide that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Yvonne.

“I missed her so much in those three weeks and I decided that I could not live without her,” he said.

Yvonne got married on her 17th birthday and said she does not regret it as she has a good man on her side.

“It was the best thing that happened to us and, 60 years later, we are still as much in love and still go out on dates which we thoroughly enjoy.”

Yvonne said they have always been able to share things and not go to bed annoyed with each other.

Bob and Yvonne Moore were married on 27 June 1958.

“The family is involved in all activities with us. We both know how lucky we are to have the Lord Jesus at the centre of our marriage. I am forever grateful for all the blessings we have and our children want us to write our love story,” said Yvonne.

The couple tied the knot on 27 June 1958 and are blessed with five children (three sons and two daughters) 11 grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
