There was even more reason to celebrate this week when HACT presented the pair with its top fund-raiser holiday prizes, sponsored by First Group.

Of the 70 local and international runners that ran this year’s race for HACT, Dean and Grant raised the most money. They also raised the most money out of all runners who raced for charity in this year’s version of the ultimate human race. This year was HACT’s first year as one of the Comrades Marathon Association’s six official charities. As the only charity of the six that is based along the famous route, their team has been blown away by the success of its Run for Hope campaign.

“The generosity and enthusiasm of Dean, Grant and all our Comrades 2018 runners has been so inspiring this year,” said HACT’s marketing and fund-raising manager, Claire Hodgkinson.

“The funds raised by our runners are desperately needed at the Centre and are going to help us save and transform many lives over the coming months.”

During the Comrades Marathon, HACT hosted a fun day outside its premises on Old Main Road in Hillcrest. In addition to Butlers, the main partners for the event, 30 learners from Hillcrest High School volunteered on the day, manning the face painting station, the children’s jumping castle and cheerleading. Hillcrest Primary School also brought along 75 of their Grade 7 learners to entertain the runners with their drumming.

In total, HACT’s 2018 Run for Hope campaign has raised R1 051 426 which will be used to provide life-saving care to adults and children admitted to the centre’s 24-bed Respite Unit as well as economic empowerment opportunities to local gogos caring for their orphaned grandchildren.
