The senior and junior teams raked in numerous awards, from medals to trophies in the World Scholars' Cup regionals.

KLOOF High School learners made their school proud when they brought home no less than 15 trophies, including gold and silver medals, from the World Scholars’ Cup Competition.

Twelve learners were excited to participate in the recent World Scholars’ Cup Competition regional rounds at Curro Hillcrest.

Four teams, consisting of two Grade 9 teams and two Grade 12 teams, were entered into the competition. To prepare, learners were required to study different themes and subjects under the 2018 theme, An Entangled World.

The subjects included: special area – Human Relationships; history – The History of Diplomacy; social studies – Black Markets; science – The Science of Memory; art and music – Braving the Distance and literature – Voices of the Inseparable.

Each team participated in a team debate, collaborative essay writing, a scholar’s bowl test and a team scholar’s bowl quiz.

“This is the first time Kloof High School has participated and we were blown away with the outstanding results achieved by all our learners,” said the KHS English subject head, Kristy Bricknell.

Overall, the junior teams were placed 1st in the competition in the junior division. The senior teams were placed 2nd, 3rd and 6th in the senior division.

The teams received a total of 15 trophies and numerous gold and silver medals.

Many of the learners also excelled personally as top debate champions, writing champions and overall winners in the subject areas.

All four teams qualified to go take part in the global round of the World Scholars’ Competition in either Barcelona or Melbourne later this year.

“We are extremely proud of our learners as they displayed commitment, determination and embodied the school motto ‘To be the best that I can be’,” said Kristy.
